Answers

Joining A2B
Do I need to join A2B to be able to use it?
No. You can still search A2B by manually entering a latitude and longitude if you are not a member. However, if you join you can use GPS and other positioning software which can search A2B automatically and tell you the nearest links to your latest position.

What do I need in order to join A2B?
All you need to join A2B is an internet connection and a standard web browser. However, if you have a GPS or other positioning device and a mobile internet connection, you can take advantage of real-time position-based searching.

Is it free to join A2B?
Absolutely. Joining A2B, and continuing to use it, is free. Our GPS software, GPSCookie, is also free. In the future we will probably add some kind of advertising to cover our costs, but we haven't got there yet.

Is my password secure?
Your password is stored encrypted in our database in a way that means no one apart from you is ever able to unlock it.

Searching A2B
How do I search A2B?
Simple. Visit the A2B site and click on "Search A2B". If you would like to search manually, using a known latitude and longitude, select "Manual". If you would like to search using your latest uploaded position, click "Automatic".

Can I use a GPS device to search from a mobile device?
Totally! That's one of the best bits of A2B - you can use a GPS device to search on the move and discover interesting websites in the area. You will need to be running GPSCookie or other A2B-compatible software.

How do I find my latitude and longitude?
It's quite easy, if you don't already know it or have it at hand on a GPS device. You can visit one of the main web-based mapping sites to find it out. We use Maporama and Multimap a lot at A2B. If you fill in your street address, you usually see the latitude and longitude on the page with the map. See also the A2B positioning page for more information.

Adding sites to A2B
Can I add a website to A2B?
Certainly. The website has to be associated with a physical place on the Earth's surface, but once you know its latitude and longitude it's easy to add it. You can even use your GPS to upload your position and then "tie" the website to your current latitude and longitude..

Do I have to run the website myself?
No. You can add websites relevant to your local area. For example, if there's an interesting museum or similar landmark in your town, either ask the museum to add their site to A2B, or add it yourself.

Can I add my weblog?
Certainly. Any website can be added.

Can I use GeoURL and Geotags META tags on my site?
Yes. A2B will check for these tags automatically when you enter a site's URL during the addition process. If you are unfamiliar with them, these are location-specific META tags you can add to the HTML code of your webpage to tell other sites and programs the location associated with the page.  More details...

GPS and positioning software
What does GPSCookie do?
GPSCookie is a piece of GPS software, available for Windows computers and Microsoft Pocket PC PDAs, which can "grab" your current position from a GPS device and use it to search A2B for the nearest links. GPSCookie is free. You can download it here.

Can other GPS software be used to search A2B?
Not yet. However, A2B capability should soon be available in other software. If you run other GPS software and think it would be neat to have A2B capability in it

I'm a software developer. Can I add A2B compatibility to my software?

Certainly - we think it would be a great idea if you did that. At no charge. Please check out this page for details on how to do that.
