Connecting
a GPS device
- Configure GPSCookie to use the
serial port the connection to your GPS device will be on. If you're
using a Bluetooth GPS device, you may need to consult the user manual
for the Bluetooth hardware you are using to find out which Bluetooth
serial port is being used.
- Connect your GPS to your computer or PDA and turn it on.
- Click on "Start" in GPSCookie. If a signal is being received from
your GPS then the status button in the top right-hand of the software
window will change from red to green.
- You will now see your current position in the GPS window of GPSCookie.
Searching
for websites using a GPS
- Click on the "A2B" tab in
GPSCookie.
- Click on "Configure" and
fill in your A2B username and password in the configuration window.
Click "OK". You need to join A2B to have a
username and password.
- Make sure you are receiving a signal from your GPS device (see
"Connecting a GPS device" above) and that your computer or PDA has an
internet connection. You can use a mobile/cellphone or Wi-Fi hotspot
for this too!
- Click on "Search" and A2B
will return the nearest websites to your current position, along with
their distance and direction.
- Click on one of the websites and your browser will open so you can
see the site.
Uploading
your location to A2B
- Click on "Upload Location"
in the A2B window of GPSCookie.
- Your location will be transferred from your GPS to the A2B site
(where no one can see it apart from you).
- Log in to the A2B website to run searches and add sites using your
location.
Adding
sites to A2B using a GPS
- Upload your latest location as described in "Uploading your location
to A2B" above.
- Go to the A2B website and click on "Search
A2B" then "Add a site".
- Fill in the URL and then the title of the website.
- Select "Your Latest A2B Member
Recorded Position" as the position associated with the site
you're adding.
